Dog obedience training refers to the many methods for training dogs such as crate training, use of motivational approach, clicker training, collar and leash training. The purpose of these dog training programs is to build a deeper and more rewarding relationship between a pet owner and his pooch. Regardless of the breed of dog you may own, you will benefit from the right training method in terms of the peace of mind that you will get from a healthy relationship with your dog. It is also beneficial to your pet dog because a dog obedience training success helps him to understand what is expected of him. Elements of a Dog Obedience Training Success A proper dog obedience training method must aim to build a harmonious relationship between you and your pet. It must help you communicate your expectations to your pet and it must teach him how to respond to these expectations. It must reward proper behavior and help him in changing habits that are not acceptable. An effective dog obedience training must also teach him to know your voice so that you can readily give him simple commands like “sit”, “stay” or “come.” If you want your pet to be friendlier towards other people and other dogs, an obedience training will give him the common rules to achieve this. It will help him overcome behaviors such as excessive barking, dog food aggression, digging or chewing that are improper conduct to humans and to other dogs as well. Benefits of a Dog Obedience Training Success Dog obedience training success is fun and easy, offering you the benefit of a more harmonious relationship with your pet. It will help you communicate the fact to your dog that you are the leader of the pack and you are there to be followed and at the same time to care for him. A proper training will also help your dog know simple rules which will help him prevent confusion which is really the result of poor communication. Your dog will also enjoy a a more carefree existence with you if he is made to understand your rules. This will result to him more confident and more relaxed in his dealings with you and other people in his environment. Once your dog is trained well, you can give him more independence, relieved that he can be trusted more. You would also worry less about unacceptable dog conduct, as it becomes clearer to him that he is expected to obey and follow rules.

Having an obedient and well-behaved puppy is every dog owner’s dream. But the reality is that every pet owner goes through the stage in which her dog expresses his own character, i.e. her puppy has a mind of its own, so some puppy training needs to be applied.

It can get quite bad, with some pet owners even contemplating giving up their dog for adoption. But before you even think about it, it’s not as bad as it sounds; training your pup is pretty simple. All you need to know are the basic puppy training tips to turn him into the most obedient dog you’ve ever wanted.

1. Potty Training – One of the best way to potty train your puppy quickly is to use his crate to set some boundaries. Puppies don’t go to the toilet where they sleep, so you can use the crate as training aid, when you can’t look after your puppy.

Obviously – don’t leave him in there for longer than you know he can hold his bladder, but increase the intervals little by little.

2. Leash Training – Your dog might be resistant or even fussy at first, but be extra patient. Never scold or yell at him or this will only confuse him. Gently tug the leash and coax him to follow you.

3. The NO – This has to be the most widely used and most helpful dog command. The NO command will come handy – I promise you, so you can start teaching your puppy as soon as you get him home.

Use a firm and authoritative voice whenever you say “no” – but keep it consistent. As you are saying it, divert him from the behavior you want him to stop. But always make sure to immediately give him something else to do.

For e.g. if he is currently chewing on your favorite pair of slippers, say the NO and take him gently to his chew toy. As soon as he happily starts to chew on it, tell him he’s a good boy and go on with your day…
He will eventually associate the word “NO” with any bad behavior.

4. The COME – this is another very useful puppy training tip. A lot of dog owners seem to presume that puppies at the tender age of 6 weeks are gifted with the ability to follow commands.

You may wish that is true – but it is not. The most you can hope for in terms of puppy training results at this stage, is to start to build the foundations for an obedient dog later on.

So with this in mind, the easiest way to teach your puppy the COME command, is to wait until he’s actually coming towards syou and then call him to COME. When he reaches you praise him for being such a good puppy. Soon he’ll learn that every time you say COME he needs to head over to you – and if he does he’s rewarded with love.

5. Don’t miss his Socialization window – Socialization is one of the most important part of a puppy’s growing up time. And yet a lot of new dog owners don’t know of it – and don’t realize it until it’s too late.

Socialization simply means that your puppy needs to interact with all kinds of people, animals, places and objects – this helps him grow up knowing most things in his world, so as not to be frightened or traumatized by any of them later on.

Ask your vet about the general age at which your puppy needs to be socialized to make sure you give him the best chance of growing up healthy and happy.

6. Jumping on people – Dogs jump on people because of over-excitement, to express dominance, or to get attention. To teach your dog how not to jump on people or you, you can use the following puppy training tip (and obviously let other know what to do in this situation if your puppy/dog jumps on them):

As he jumps up on you, without saying anything and immediately, turn you body away from your dog, and then walk away without paying any attention to him. The point of this is to teach him that he gets no attention for this behavior, and that in fact when he behaves like that all interaction with you seizes immediately.

It will take you a few times, but if you are consistent it will work – I promise you.

7. Consistency – Consistency is everything in your puppy training. You need to be consistent with your demands, and your behavior. If you vary your response to the same behavior – your puppy will be confused. Keep in mind that although they are special and smart animals, they are devout of human logic, and they do not understand the meaning of special occasions…

The other key to raising a loving and obedient dog is dedication. But if you follow the puppy training tips above, then you would find the process much easier. Training your pup might take a lot of your personal time, but living with a well-trained dog is worth every second of it.

If your dog has not received adequate dog obedience training, you could be experiencing a variety of different problems associated with its ownership. These can include excessive barking, destruction and chewing, jumping up or rushing guests or strangers, aggressive behavior toward people or other animals, food aggression or a variety of other serious issues. More basic issues could be difficulties in getting him or her to walk on a leash, come or stay.

When your dog displays any of these behaviors, the feelings that can be caused include severe embarrassment and frustration. These feelings can be overcome by proper dog training.

But dog training is not only about training the dog, but instead is about creating an understanding between you and your canine companion. Dog obedience training is as much about the owner as it is about the dog in question.

Your own behavior may be reinforcing bad behaviors that your dog displays. If you are creating inconsistency in your messages, inappropriate hand signals or other body language, using the wrong types of rewards, rewarding poor behavior or disobedience, overusing punishment, and so on, you may be reinforcing the negative behaviors that your dog is showing. Rather than continue to make these mistakes, it is vital that you put some serious consideration into dog behavior training.

Luckily, there are a wide variety of self help dog training guides that you can turn to for assistance. Why pay out hundreds if not thousands of dollars for dog training and dog obedience training courses that are led by someone with questionable experience and expertise, when you can teach your dog yourself on a much more personal level?

As it was mentioned before, dog behavior training is actually a joint effort between the dog and the dog owner. So personalized self-help dog training is going to be an improvement over what a public course can offer.

You can easily find self help dog training newsletters, e-books or electronic books, audio tapes and CDs, and even training videos. All of these excellent resources will be powerful in helping you develop proper dog training techniques with your special canine companion.

These dog obedience training guides are usually extremely simple, straight forward and easy for you to follow. The DIY or Do-It-Yourself approach can save you a great deal of both money and time. Not only will it save you money and time, but the DIY approach to dog obedience training will also allow you to monitor your dog’s behavior as well as your own.

When it comes to dog training and more specifically dog obedience training, it is vital that you train yourself as much as you train your dog. If you are not learning just as much as your dog is, you are not in the right form of training. Obedience training for dogs is a joint effort that requires you to be in it just as much as your canine friend. This is why personal dog training using self help newsletters, e-books, tapes, CDs and videos is the ideal way to go, if you are looking for dog obedience training that gets results.

A barking dog collar is just one way to put a stop to excess dog barking. Let’s face it, dogs bark. That’s just what dogs do, but when that barking just goes on and on something has to give. Constant barking causes all kinds of stress. Following are 5 tips if you’re looking at a bark stop collar.

1. Look closely.

Before you get a collar, watch the dog for some clues as to why all the noise is happening. Sometimes there may be a better and easier way to stop the barking. Some animals have so much energy, the barking may just result from too little exercise for example. Look for the barking cause, but there may not really be one!!!

2. Sound blasters even work on neighbor noise.

One device that’s not a collar may be an option. That’s a sound blaster. This can even work on neighbor dogs. What happens with these is the sensor in the blaster detects barking. When the barking starts, the blaster generates loud ultrasonic blasts. This can’t be heard by people, but it’s painful to the dogs in the area. They may shut up to avoid the pain. Works sometimes, but not all the time. Some of these have a warranty so if it doesn’t work you can get a refund.

3. Ultrasonic solutions not shocking.

The ultrasonic collar works the same way. If the dog wearing the collar barks, it gets a blast of painful noise. More barking produces more pain. This works for most dogs, but only if the collar is on. Take the collar off and the noise will most likely start right back.

4. Stink oil spray.

This collar detects barking and sprays a blast of citronella oil around the dog’s face. The spray itself is irritating, but the citronella oil smell makes it even worse. These work for most dogs and are shown to be as effective as most any other method.

5. What about the shocking solution?

A violent solution is the electrical shock. Barking causes the dog to get an electrical shock. Most dogs stop the noise quickly. Again, this usually only works as long as the collar is on. Think about this? How would you like to get an electrical shock for barking if that was your natural reaction to something? Not too well… Some dogs go “crazy” when shocked. Some never recover rational behavior.

There are options when choosing a barking dog collar. The less violent options, like the citronella collar, often work as well or better than the electrical shock collars. Look first for the cause of the barking before using a collar for training.
