Having a Labrador puppy around can sometimes be a handful. They tend to get into quite a bit of mischief, and if you are not always watching them, they may end up chewing something of value to you, or going potty on your rug.
If you are looking for a solution for your mischievous lab, you might want to try crate training him. Labrador crate training works very well and not only does it keep your puppy safe, it also keeps him from ruining your house when you canât watch him.
The first thing you should know about crate training is that when done right, it can be one of the best training methods you can use to train your lab. You will still have to watch your puppy and you cannot leave him in his crate all the time, but it can sure help if you have to run to the store, or make dinner and canât keep a close eye on him.
So if you want to start crate training your Labrador puppy, you will first need a crate. That sounds obvious but when selecting a crate there are several things you will need to keep in mind. You will need to consider how much space you have at home for it, what size your puppy is, and where you will put it.
A good way to select a crate is by how big your dog is. Labradors grow pretty fast during the first 8 months or so when you will be most likely to be crate training him so you may want to choose one that he can grow into so you wonât have to get another one down the road.
Another thing you must consider is where you will put it in your home. A good place is somewhere that has low traffic, but is close enough to you so he doesnât feel isolated. This will help him feel comfortable in his new den, which is what you want.
After you get your new crate setup, you will probably want to put some chew toys in there to give your puppy something to do. It is a good idea to avoid putting water and food in his crate to because if you do he will more than likely have an accident in his crate.
After you get your puppy used to his crate he will begin to feel more comfortable and will soon learn to love having his own den.
