How to Stop a Dog’s Constant Barking

There can be alot of reasons why your puppy would bark too much. This can be quite frustrating, there might be some good reasons for this behavior. Your pet might be making you aware of a threat or trying to tell you it is hurt.

There might be other less appropriate reasons why your puppy would be exhibiting this behavior. They could be trying to gain attention or be acting out intentionally.

Whatever the reason, a puppy that won’t stop barking can certantly give you a migraine. If the behavior is recurring there are a few things that you may attempt.

Frequently, you can get your dog to stop barking by trying a method of training. There are some exact methods and tools to assist with the problem of a barking dog.

Alot of cases of frequent barking can be aleviated by training and a system of positive and negative reinforcement where you show the dog when its ok to bark and when not to. When your puppy barks at at the wrong times, they are scolded and told “no barking”. When they behave properly and are not brking when they shouldn’t be, reward them to reinforce this positive behavior.

If the situation can’t be resolved in this manner, you may want to think about the purchase of a bark collar. A bark collar will deliver a small electric shock when it detects the dog barking. The shock gives the dog very small discomfort and does not actually harm the puppy. It should be noted that some dog owners do not like this method as a matter of choice.

You may also consider a similar device available that instead of a shock gives the dog a mist of citronella. Dogs are not fond of the smell and they come to realize it is related to the barking.

In some extreme cases, your vet may consider your dog a candidate a procedure known as debarking surgery. This operation is removing a fold of tissue from the dog’s larynx which makes the dog notable to bark. The surgery isn’t always effective and isn’t often used.

Your dogs barking can certainly drive you up the wall, as you can see it isn’t a situation that can’t be fixed. With patience and training, you can put an end to your dog’s unfortunate habit.
