Dog Obedience – Novice. Roo the Border Collie pup competing at 7 months
March 21, 2010 by Dog Trainer Filed under Dog Obedience
This is my baby Roody competing at 7 moths old in Novice. He’s a bit all over the place at the moment, but I’m pleased with the attitude for work he has. He ended up with a 2nd place…..bless…

Well, this is UK obedience not AKC. We teach the drive ‘up’ which produces a ‘trot’. If you look at my other dog’s video you’d notice that he doesn’t ‘trot’, just walks. In the UK we do think it looks quite stylish though.

Not that I am complaining about this dog at all, lol but why do you teach them to prance like a gaited horse when they walk with you? Is it to look showy? I notice its a very AKC thing to do, just curious why. Beautiful dog though!
GO ROODY
Well done, Claire & Roo x3
how did you teach her to heel ? did you do nose bridge or targeting of your hand? i see that she is looking up but more so at your hand than your face .and she is prancing too which tells me that she is looking for a treat or somthing in you hand . just wondering, i an trying to improve the heel work on my dog
I train by myself mainly, but also go to a private trainer once a month….Thanks for the comments! x
