Control Barking Dogs-Top 7 Tips On How To Control Barking Dogs

May 4, 2010 by   Filed under Barking Dogs

So you are tired of barking dogs and now looking for ways on how to control barking dogs. Excessive barking of dogs may cause them to end up in a shelter or perhaps complaints filed against the owners with the police by people in the neighborhood. By learning how to stop your dogs from excessive barking, you can live your life in a more peaceful way, without having to worry about legal issues or relationship problems.

Firstly, you need to understand that dogs are only using “barking” as a means to communicate with the world outside. Dogs do not have any other way of doing this if they are “shut off” from the outside world. Unfortunately, some dogs like to do it more than others and that is when it becomes a big nuisance for humans.

An important aspect of controlling barking dogs is not to shout or yell at them. This sort of behavior on your part will increase their barking habits.

Given below are the top 7 tips on how to control barking dogs -:

1 – When dogs are barking, use a clear squirt gun to squirt some water on them.

2 – Roll up a newspaper and hit it hard on your palm, the noise produced will generally work to calm the dogs, however, this method works only with puppies.

3 – When your dogs are barking, throw something near them (example – keys) that will make a noise loud enough to distract them from barking.

4 – Teach your dogs a command that means “quiet”.

5 – Reward your dogs by giving them a treat when they obey you and stop barking.

6 – If you have to leave your dogs alone at home, give them some good dog chew toys so that they don’t start barking out of boredom.

7 – While training don’t yell at your dogs. Training dogs to stop barking is a slow process and takes time for dogs to learn. Don’t expect your dogs to start obeying you from day one.

As you can see here stopping barking dogs can be a pretty irritating issue to deal with. When trying to control barking dogs, a good dog training course can be very useful. You will want to look for the one that includes a free consultation with a skilled dog trainer.
