Crate Training Puppies – Eventual Advantages

First, and literally first, potty training! Crate training puppies can make your housebreaking efforts far easier than without. Simply by taking advantage of the fact that they dread eliminating in their sleeping area or in enclosed areas in which they are forced to be in at the time being.

Second, the destruction factor. A crate will give them a place to go while you’re not around. This helps keep them occupied without having to find something to go play with, or chew on, or explore. Crate training puppies can be one of the first preventative measures to having to buy new shoes.

Third, your dog’s mental stability. Every day when you go to work, your dog can’t be sure that you’re planning on returning. As I’m sure you can imagine, this can be very stressful. As a result many dogs can be stricken with separation anxiety. As I mentioned before, crates can be wonderful tools to keep your dog’s mind occupied, thus helping prevent problems like this.

Another advantage to crate training puppies is how much easier it makes all the other things in life for them.

For car travel, a crate can make things easier. For air travel, a crate is required. For overnight vet visits, a crate is required. Crate training puppies can make this a MUCH easier process. Putting a dog that’s unaccustomed to crates into a crate for a long period of time is a rather bad idea. The amount of stress caused and resistance given is amazing.

These are the reasons I strongly recommend crate training puppies. It has advantages from puppy all the way to adult.

Article by Jones Spores

Weimaraner crate training or for another family pet breed is very crucial. It is basic training and it might help you get enhanced control over your pet. If done right, crate training is gonna supply your weimaraner an area to sleep in and it will likely be a sort of home. Many puppies will consider their crates their dens and it is going to be an area they can sleep in and rest in.

Crate training is a lot less complicated than what most owners think. It might be a bit of a challenge to begin, but your pet dog is gonna take to it soon enough. One of the best suggestion I could give you about crate training is to guarantee you choose a crate of the correct size. Too small and your dog is not gonna be secure in it. Too big and it won’t feel like much of a hideaway. In fact, if you have had some problem with your dog pooping or peeing in crate, it could be because the crate was too large.

Your pet dog’s crate should only be enormous enough so that your pet can lie down and stand up in it comfortably. If it is too huge, there are going to be areas that your pet dog won’t use and they may be temped to pee or poop there. Keep in mind that pets are nest animals and that they will not no usually go to the bathroom in the put they consider their lair.

When you begin crate training, you really need to begin with only putting the dog in its crate for a short period of time. 5 minutes to begin will do fine. Gradually add to this time as the family pet becomes more secure with the crate. But, do not keep the pet dog in the crate for long periods of time because they do really have to get out and pee. You can also feed your weimaraner in the crate and you’ll be able to leave a water bowl in there too.

You also really need to look at the position of the crate. Do not leave the crate against a wall, place it instead in the middle of the room. This helps to keep the air circulating in the crate. It is also going to assistance keep the dog cool.

These weimaraner crate training ideas are going to be able to support make the process go smoother. If crate training just isn’t working so well for you, you ought to not give it up. Take a step back and look at some of the factors that can be causing your issues. Once you have figured them out, see what the concerns are.

Expert Tips For Crate Training Puppies
Crate training is one of the most productive strategies to potty train your dog. That is because dogs naturally aspire to keep their sleeping area clean, thus making them understand much more quickly that the right place to do their business is OUTSIDE the house. Take note, though, that the result from crate training puppies cannot be seen overnight. You’ll have to be prepared for weeks of training and occasional “accidents” wherein your puppy will mess up where he isn’t supposed to. Here are a few guidelines on how to make crate training work for you:

1. Choose the right crate size. Getting a large crate for a small dog will give him the chance to designate a corner of the crate as his elimination area, thus defeating the purpose of utilizing the crate for potty training. If your puppy belongs to a large breed and you want to save up by buying a large crate in advance, place a divider inside the crate to limit the area in which the puppy can move around.

2. When you first introduce the crate to your puppy, guide him inside and then leave the crate door open. You may toss a treat inside to encourage the puppy to go in. As your dog gets used to the crate, you may close the door for a few minutes at a time. When you notice that your dog has grown to love the crate and goes inside on his own, you may keep the door closed for longer periods.

3. Make the crate comfortable and interesting. You want to encourage your puppy to treat the crate as his den, so be sure to arrange comfortable bedding and his favourite toys inside. You may also want to include a few treats for good measure. Toys and treats will help ensure that your dog is satisfactorily occupied, especially if you have to leave him in the crate while you’re out of the house.

4. Keep the crate nearby while you’re watching TV or sleeping, especially when your puppy is still getting used to it. This lets the dog know that you’re nearby and that you haven’t abandoned him. It will also keep him from getting lonely.

5. Follow a daily schedule when you start crate training puppies. This means that you have to let your dog out and clean the crate at the same time each day. You should also guide the dog into the crate at the same time each afternoon and night for his naptime and bedtime. This also includes setting regular bathing and eating schedules.

Those are the basic guidelines you need to follow when crate training puppies. And here are a few additional tips: Start crate training as soon as you bring your dog home. If you use collars on your dog, be sure to remove it before you let him enter the crate, as collars can get stuck between the bars of the crate and hurt your dog’s neck when he tries to pull himself free. Finally, be careful not to overdo the giving of treats when crate training your dog.

Crate Train Your American Bulldog

The Basics and Importance of Crate Training

Crate training is one of the most popular types of dog training. The reason for its popularity is its importance to any dog owner who wants to have a life aside from that of taking care of the puppy or dog. Crate training also has several benefits. It is one way of training your dog, especially a new puppy, to be independent and safe on its own when you need to do things that require your full attention. When you crate train a dog, it will learn to stay confined within a particular area or space where there is no access to anything dangerous that can harm it. It also tames the wild curiosity of puppies that seem to want to go to every possible corner of your house. Crate training is also a very effective way to house train a dog because the dog will learn how to control their physical instincts when it is confined within an area that has to be kept clean.

How to Crate Train Your Puppy or Dog Properly

To crate train your puppy or your dog, first, you have to get a crate.

The size of the crate is very important. Get a crate that is big enough so that your dog can stay comfortably inside, but small enough for it to be restricted to being a sleeping or resting area. Before taking a dog to a crate, first, allow the dog to roam around at his favorite place or spot in the house. Taking him outside will also be a good move, so as not to make it feel as if it is being confined. Then, take him to the crate. The puppy should be comfortable, and should be able to stay there without getting into trouble. Giving them something to keep their attention such as a pillow or a safe toy would be best. As you crate train your dog, it will start to feel comfortable being on its own and still behaving. Its natural curiosity will be cultivated. If you get a crate that is small enough to be solely a sleeping area for your dog, it will also learn how to hold back its urine or waste while inside the crate. Once you are ready, you can take the dog out of the crate. After doing so, take the dog somewhere he can roam free again.

The Don’ts in Crate Training

There are certain things to avoid in crate training. First, don’t place food or water inside the crate. You want to keep the crate clean, especially since you want your dog to be comfortable so it will not feel confined or locked in an unclean place where it cannot do anything but sit. Placing food or water inside the crate is like putting in ingredients for mess. Also, don’t leave a puppy or dog too long inside a crate.

A dog will be forced to hold back its urine or waste while inside the crate, which is good, but holding it in for a long time is a no-no. Finally, in crate training, don’t forget to reward your dog for behaving. This will let it know that doing the right things makes a difference.

Very early session with the girls when I just had the one little crate to play with indoors. Test is not only whether one of the girls can go inside and get comfortable, but whether the other can hold herself back from jumping in and ‘crashing the party’. We now work with 2 crates, and things have moved on, but its still interesting to see how you can’t assume the other dog that isn’t main focus can ‘just be’ – they need to be doing something, even if its relaxing or in this case sitting on their wobble cushion.

Crate training for balance, comfort and a safe place to relax. Very important in any training program. Allowing the dog to offer an entry and eventually a ‘settle’ behavior in the crate creates a positive emotional response to the crate. Crates are great for management with puppies and adult dogs, in the home, when traveling, at dog sporting events… So it is worth the time to teach this ‘game’ NOTE – The crate should never be used as a place of isolation and/or punishment NOTE NOTE – crates should never be used for ‘extended’ periods of time (except at night when all are sleeping) – it is physically and emotionally hard on animals. 4-5 hours tops… no joke!

Dog Obedience Training Crate Train Your Puppy

If you train your puppy’s body, allowing you a tool that you use in a position to deal with the techniques of dog training and development to develop and build the movement.

The boxes are also often used to house training a puppy. Dogs do not like to relieve themselves in their beds.

The dogs go in a box without too much problem, but once inside the box can be found to shrink and to fight to get out. For this type of dog you need to work slowly and are designed so that the dog is in crates Sun

On leaving, you leave the door open and hold a treat in your hand. Treatment should be really high value, such as cooked chicken, sliced ham, or roast lamb.

Feeding the puppy to the crate with the treatment as bait, and if you’re a few inches from the chest to throw the food in the back of the box and let the puppy to come and eat to get the bonus. This is repeated many times.

When the pup goes into the crate freely, the food can now be thrown into the crate as the pup runs towards the open door of the crate. With the pup inside, close the door and hold it closed for a few minutes and then release the pup. This is repeated numerous times.

Extend the time that the pup stays in the crate but do not leave him in there for more than a few minutes. If he starts panicking open the door immediately and let him out. You do not want to end up with a frightened dog, scared of crates.

In a short period of time the puppy will be content to go into the crate and lie there quietly for 5 to 10 minutes. Stop using treats at this point and start using toys and put some blankets into the crate. Take the pup outside to exercise and toilet and then bring him in and throw a toy into the crate and let the pup follow. As soon as the pup has found his toy, close the door and latch it.

When you take the dog outside, it is better that he should walk himself so that he builds memory association combining the walking outside with toileting outside. If he stops and starts sniffing or circling, pick him up immediately and head for the door as quickly as possible.

Remember to give your pup a big happy cuddle as soon as he has finished his toilet outside.

Assuming you are able to, keep the pup in the crate near you during the day, and if the pup starts complaining drop some treats into the crate and talk to him to calm him down.

If the amount of exercise you gave your pup prior to confining was adequate, he should rest for several hours.

You must be close by the crate as soon as you hear the pup stirring. Let him out of the crate and let him walk, or run, straight out into the garden. Dont forget the rewarding cuddle.

Have a really good game with the pup before going to bed. Putting the pup into the crate, make sure he is comfortable, and has his favourite toy.

You may have some whinging to start with but the pup will settle down and within a day or two he will sleep through the night and his crate and bedding will be dry.

As soon as you hear him stir, be ready to jump out of bed and run the pup outdoors. It may take a few days before the pup is clean in his crate at night but this system of house training usually works a lot quicker than other systems and I have used it very successfully with all the pups raised by my wife and I.

At the start of this article, I stated dogs will not mess in their beds. If they do, you can give yourself a clip around the ear because you were not vigilant enough. You must never punish the dog if he has an accident and messes in his bedding.

And never use the crate as a punishment. The crate must become a place where the dog feels secure and safe.

Using dog obedience training methods and your crate you can build a really great relationship with your pup.

Through proper training you need to have taught your pup to do a strong stay .

It should be strong enough for you to be able to put the dog in the crate, leave the door open, give the dog the stay command, and for you walk away a few meters.

You can move approximately 10 meters away, and then, with a favourite toy in your hand, call the dog, showing the dog the toy and have a great tug game when he latches on. This exercise needs to be repeated several times in each training session.

Strong relationship bonding with fast release and fast recalls is built up using this basic obedience training stay and release exercise.

There are lots of other great crate training games you can work at with your dog that will bring benefits from your dog obedience training program so keep an eye out for my next post on Crate Games.
