What You Should Do About Your Dog Biting

Dog biting just is not necessary. But it is most common in new dogs and young puppies. This usually happens when puppies are playing or when they are teething. Most of the time, these young dogs are sweet and loving. But there will be times when they start to bite.

Controlling That Bite

Dogs are not born with the understanding that biting is not wanted or appreciated. They must learn to control their bites. The best time for puppies to learn to stop biting is before they turn 4 months of age. Usually, a puppy will learn this while they are still with their mother and litter mates. Unfortunately, many puppies are taken away from their mother and litter mates before they can learn this lesson. So that is why we must step in and teach them.

Time to Socialize!

One of the best things to do for your puppy is to allow it to socialize with other puppies and adult dogs that have learned not to bite. When with other puppies, your puppy will roll around, play, chase after and tumble with them. It is always fun to watch puppies playing with each other. During play, the puppies will bite each other everywhere. This is when your puppy will start to learn when not to bite.

If your puppy is too hard or rough when biting other puppies, the others will react and interact in such a way that you as an owner will not be able to teach. It is a natural process that must be done between puppies.

What Happens if Your Dog Does Not Socialize?

If you offer your puppy little to no socialization with other dogs, it will grow up being fearful of others as well as exhibiting aggressive behavior. Two of the major ways that a dog reacts when it is afraid is by avoiding whatever is scaring the dog, or it will bark and bite. The biting behavior is unacceptable.

Before you can teach your dog anything, there are two important things that your dog must have. Those two are trust and respect. He must be able to trust you and he must have respect for you. If your puppy does not trust you, there is no way that he will respect you. If he does not respect you, you will not get very far with your puppy.

Physical Punishment

One very important thing you must remember is to never physically reprimand your puppy. This means that you can not hit, slap, kick or do anything physically to your dog when he does something that you do not approve of. If you do, this will be the quickest way to lose your dog’s trust in you.

Nothing can be more devastating than a vicious attack by a dog or other pet, especially if a child sacrifice. Dog attacks can have long term consequences such as permanent scarring and psychological trauma. Medical expenses for treatment, including plastic surgery may be important and have no health insurance for your staff.

If you are bitten by a dog, call 911 immediately. The authorities must investigate the incident, especially against the determination of prior medical history and the violence involved in the dog. A doctor or emergency personnel should be contacted immediately for medical risks involved in receiving a dog bite to cope.

A dog owner is often necessary to keep your pet on a leash or confined to a specific area for the safety of others. This rule applies to all races. The legal consequences of a dog attack vary widely depending on the jurisdiction where the attack took place. This article deals with the laws of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

New Jersey has one of the most favorable laws in the country for victims of a dog attack. It is considered a strict liability jurisdiction that benefits victims of dog bites. The statute, 4:19-16, states:

“The owner of any dog which shall bite a person while such person is on or in a public place, or lawfully on or in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, shall be liable for such damages as may be suffered by the person bitten, regardless of the former viciousness of such dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness. For the purpose of this section, a person is lawfully upon the private property of such owner when he is on the property in the performance of any duty imposed upon him by the laws of this state or the laws or postal regulations of the United States, or when he is on such property upon the invitation, express or implied, of the owner thereof.”

Pennsylvania is considered a strict liability jurisdiction for the payment of a victim’s medical expenses and, in limited circumstances, for non-economic damages such as pain and suffering. Pennsylvania law may require you to prove that the dog owner was negligent or that the dog had a prior propensity to bite people. The following are parts of the statutes governing dog ownership in Pennsylvania.

Section 502. DOG BITES; DETENTION AND ISOLATION OF DOGS

(a) CONFINEMENT – Any dog which bites or attacks a human being shall be confined in quarters approved by a designated employee of the Department of Health, a State dog warden or employee of the Department of Agriculture, an animal control officer or a police officer. Such dog may be detained and isolated in an approved kennel or at the dog owner’s property. Where such dog is detained is at the discretion of the investigating officer. All dogs so detained must be isolated for a minimum of ten days. Any costs incurred in the detaining and isolation of such dog shall be paid by the offending dog’s owner. When the dog’s owner is not known, the Commonwealth is responsible for all reasonable costs for holding and detaining such dog.

(b) BITE VICTIMS – The investigating officer shall be responsible for notifying
the bite victim of the medical results of the offending dogs confinement. Any cost to the victim for medical treatment resulting from an attacking or biting dog must be paid fully by the owner of such dog. The Commonwealth shall not be liable for medical treatment costs to the victim.

(c) EXEMPTION – When a dog that bites or attacks a human being is a service dog or a police work dog in the performance of duties, said dog need not be confined if it is under the active supervision of a licensed doctor of veterinary medicine. If the dog bite victim requires compensation over and above the medical costs, the victim must prove one of three things:

(1) The dog owner was negligent.

(2) The dog had a dangerous propensity to bite people.

(3) The attack was a violation of the dangerous dog law because of the seriousness of the injuries.

Dog bites are traumatizing events. Think objectively when making decisions. Do not let emotions cloud your judgment when deciding the best course of action regarding possible civil and criminal legal proceedings pertaining to the dog’s owner or whether someone should seek medical care in the event of personal injuries.

Avoiding Aggressive Dog Bit in American Bulldog

The danger of Dog Bites

Dog bites are dangerous and unfortunately very common. Galapagos off as something trivial or unimportant, people do not pay much attention to prevent dog bites aggressive. However, you will be surprised to know that the number of people bitten by dogs is very high, or more children. This shows that the dog bites, and how to avoid them is a topic worthy of research.

Why dogs bite

Dogs bite as a sign of aggression against someone they dislike or fear. They bite when they are upset or angry. Dogs bite because it is doing in their nature. They are also easily occur when the people around them to show a behavior against nature, which makes the dog uncomfortable and embarrassed. Dog bite if the person anxiety and fear on him following a behavior against nature, which in turn affects the dog shows in a negative sense. Everything has meaning in how a person approaches a dog to bite the dog that is sometimes only a negative answer to a negative approach.

How to Avoid Dog Bites

To avoid dog bites, it is important to approach a dog in a way that will not make the dog irritated, scared, uncomfortable, and even suspicious. Dogs also tend to bite when they do not know a person, so aside from learning how to approach a dog, it is better not to approach dogs that are not familiar to you, especially without the dog owner there. When the dog owner is around, dogs are usually more relaxed, and are at arm’s length of the owner so that it could be shushed or stopped if it ever starts to behave eratically. Also, when approaching a dog, don’t greet it by patting it on its head. Wait for the dog to approach you and inspect you before touching it. Or you can also approach a dog from the side, instead of meeting it head on. Also, when you sit down, dogs will also feel more at ease with you, so sitting down will also calm the dog. It is also very common among dogs to become suspicious and aggressive when you seem interested and overly enthusiastic to approach it. Dogs are easily suspicious, and they can easily defend themselves by biting. Among children, however, the best way to avoid aggressive dog bites is to just keep them away from dogs. Children have the tendency to behave in an unpredictable way, especially in the presence of pets, which they may mistake as cuddly, adorable, and absolutely harmless beings. Some dogs may react negatively to such behavior, especially when they do not know the child. In general, avoiding the aggressive dog bite is all about making the dog feel comfortable and at ease with your presence. Some dog experts have come up with calming signals that can help ease the dog into a calm temperament when you approach it.

Running is Not an Option

This is one of the more common warnings against dog bites: Don’t run. To defend or protect themselves, dogs usually display an aggressive stance. If you get scared and run away, it will confirm the dog’s suspicions because you reacted to its defensive behavior yourself. If you run away from an aggressive dog whose eyes are on you, you will most likely be bitten. If a dog displays aggression towards you, the best way to avoid the aggressive dog bite is to slowly back away from it, and to calm the dog by shifting your attention to other things. If you know of any calming signals, these would greatly help in avoiding dog bites.

Portage Incident Subject To The Michigan Dog Bite Statute, According To Mark Bernstein

A woman from Portage, Michigan facing criminal charges after his two pit bulls unattended recently both an Australian shepherd and his owner were attacked. The local prosecutor charged the woman with several misdemeanor offenses, including two counts of using animals in the wild, two counts of dog bites a person and two counts of destruction of property.

The defendant said she was not present during the attack, an unknown person posted the pit bulls from their garden fenced so that they escape and attack. She acknowledged that one of his dogs was “animal aggressive” after another dog attack nearly six years.

Meanwhile, dog attack victim is recovering from bites to both hands. Regardless of the outcome of the prosecution, the victim may bring a civil action to recover from the Michigan Dog Bite Statute, MCL 287.351, for damages for herself and her dog. This law provides that the owner of a dog is liable for any damages suffered by the person who was attacked.According to the Michigan Dog Bite Statute, the victim may recover for her injuries, whether or not the dog had a history of viciousness or the owner had knowledge of the dog’s propensity to attack.

The Michigan dog bite law is considered a ‘strict liability’ statute. In other words, Michigan dog bite law makes a Michigan dog owner responsible for any physical injury that the dog causes to the Michigan dog bite victim.

The Michigan Dog Bite Statute, MCL 287.351, specifically states:

If a dog bites a person, without provocation while the person is on public property, or lawfully on private property, including the property of the owner of the dog, the owner of the dog shall be liable for any damages suffered by the person bitten, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.

A comprehensive national study of dog attack injuries revealed that dogs bite approximately 4.7 million Americans every year. Of these, about 800,000 dog bite victims require medical attention.

Each year, 1.8% of the U.S. population is bitten by a dog. One out of every six of the dog bite victims has to seek medical care because of an attack. Tragically, almost half of all dog bite victims are children.

“If you or a loved one suffered a serious injury as a result of a Michigan dog bite, it’s important to know and protect your legal rights,” says Michigan dog bite lawyer Mark Bernstein. “Michigan dog bites cases are different from other states because Michigan does not allow one ‘free bite’. Dog owners are responsible even if they were unaware of the incident or their dog had never bitten before.”

Mark Bernstein and the Michigan dog bite attorneys at the Sam Bernstein Law Firm have been protecting the rights of dog bite victims since 1968.

If you own a dog or already have one, and I wish you to stop the dogs do not bite anyone, there are 2 things you remember: First, you have your dog trainer must begood, and secondly, you were required to stop in stressful situations.

Dogs feel stressed by unfamiliar objects, folks or places, or by unpredictable behavior. However, the degree of unfamiliarity and unpredictability is completely different from dog to dog. During a crowd, some dogs are friendly to strangers while others are not. What spells the distinction between these dogs isn’t breed but how well they were raised. So, you’ll stop dogs from biting if you properly train your dog.

How to stop dogs from biting
Although there’s no guarantee that your dog can never attack or bite anyone, these six tips can considerably cut back the risks of your dog attacking or biting someone:

1. Familiarity with folks and atmosphere will facilitate your to prevent dogs from biting. Create positive and pleasant encounters for your dog with objects, folks and places among the first 8 to 16 weeks of his life, especially with those he would seemingly encounter throughout his lifetime. To forestall dogs from biting introduce them immediately to numerous kinds of objects in your house and outside your house (e.g. your vacuum cleaner), to varied kinds of people (e.g. the postman), and to numerous sorts of environments (e.g. your automotive). Introduce him also to grooming, to the vet, and to alternative animals, especially alternative dogs. Some dogs do not suppose they’re dogs. You do not need your dog to possess an identity crisis, does one?

2. Familiarize dogs to being touched to forestall dogs from biting as early as doable however supervise dogs after they are with young children as much as possible. It is higher your dog realizes early on that you just and others mean no harm when you hold him since you cannot avoid touching him or him being touched by other people, particularly when he needs to be groomed or to be brought to the vet. But, how he’s held is important to him. If he is held improperly, as most young youngsters would hold him, he becomes afraid of being touched.

3. Another tip to stop dogs from biting is to form a home for dogs where they’ll notice peace, safety and security and teach others to respect it. Your dog would encounter a minimum of many stressful situations in his lifetime and that is all but traditional in a dog’s life. But, if dogs includes a haven to travel home to, it will stop dogs from biting, as they would additional possible dash to their dog house instead of attack.

4. Tie your dog when walking him in public but no more than eight hours in one place. Dogs tend to urge temperamental and aggressive when tied since they expertise barrier frustration. They’re additional seemingly to attack and bite when approached since it appears to them their territory is being intruded and, as a result of they can not flee, they fight the intruder. But, when walking your dog, he is better on than off a leash. Supervised dogs are less likely to attack and bite, and additionally you’ll keep a better eye on them with a leash and can forestall dogs from biting if they encounter a stressful situation.

5. Another way to stop dogs from biting is to teach dogs with correct and productive behavior. Though it is highly recommended to enroll your dog, as well as your family, during a home obedience class, it’s simply as advisable to consistently reinforce correct and acceptable behavior. Your dog cannot tell the difference between rough-play and real-life things thus don’t show or teach him aggressive behavior, like chasing after or attacking others even for fun. If he exhibits aggressive behavior towards different folks or animals, like growling when somebody comes too close to his food bowl, request professional help. It’s important to stop dogs biting and aggressive behavior as early as possible.

It isn’t all that difficult to prevent dogs from biting and lift them to be friendly, particularly if you see dogs as another being that deserves love and a spotlight as much as anyone else does, as a lot of as you do. Most often than not, dogs that attack and bite are neglected dogs. So continually keep in mind that behind a sensible dog may be a sensible pet owner.

Dog Bite Prevention Is Alot Less Stressful Than The Cure

One of the most common misconceptions people have is that their own dogs won’t bite. While everybody feels some level of respect for a big, growling dog we are becoming too nonchalant about our own dogs. How confident are you that your dog will never bite anyone?

Do the words – Wouldn’t hurt a fly come to mind? We all think that our own dogs are gentle natured until they prove us otherwise.
Dog owners often claim their dogs are completely comfortable with children. I myself was bitten as a child it happens often and even usually mild mannered dogs can snap. Children are a little more vulnerable and a little snap that wouldn’t injure an adult can have dire consequences for a well-meaning child.

Dogs can inflict potentially life threatening injuries. Luckily my injuries were only superficial. Some corrective surgery and a few years of healing and the physical evidence have all but gone. Many are not as fortunate.

Tragically for the most part, these kinds of bites are completely avoidable. Dogs don’t bite people without provocation right?
Not quite. It’s true it does take some provoking to get a usually mild mannered dog to bite the triggers aren’t as obvious as you would think.

So why do dogs bite?
Experts still disagree as to whether dogs bite because of human provocation or breeding. While it is indisputable that certain breeds of dogs do bite more than others it’s also hard to argue with thousands of year’s worth of domestication. People have been trying to breed the aggressive out of the dog for the most part anyway.

There are some human behaviors that can provoke even docile dogs:

-Fiddling with their food: don’t disturb your dog (or any dog) while they are eating.
-Sudden movements can upset dogs, if a strange dog is growling at you its best to back away slowly.
-The old saying let sleeping dogs lie is true. Don’t startle a dog that is sleeping.
-Dogs have a powerful sense of territory, and may become upset when someone unfamiliar threatens their space.
-Don’t try to disrupt a dog fight.
-Dogs have strong maternal instincts and if there are puppies you should be careful not to startle the mother (or any adult dog the area).
-Dogs can be confused about the cause of their own illness or pain; they might think it was the owner who caused the pain and bite.
-Dogs become afraid just like humans any dog can bite if it feels it is in danger.
-All dogs experience some form of possessiveness. Tread carefully if a dog is growling at you chances are you’re on his turf.
-Looking a dog in the eyes is seen as a challenging of dominance. If a dog is growling at you lower your eyes and back away slowly.

Preventing dog bites starts with the owner. If you have a dog you can reduce the risk that your dog might attack someone with some of these suggestions
.
-Have your dog spayed or neutered. Not only does it prevent many kinds of health problems later in life, it drastically reduces the aggression levels in male and female dogs.
-Start socializing your puppy at a young age. Get your puppy used to being in a busy and unfamiliar environment as soon as he is vaccinated.
-Invest in some kind of formal training program. This will give you an immense faith in your dog and strengthen the relationship between you two.
-Take your dog to the vet regularly and make sure all his vaccinations are always up to date. Get your dog licensed and keep up to date on all his paperwork.
-Never let your dog wander freely. Your dog should be contained on your property and you should be able to control his access to the street.

By following these very few and common sense steps you can reduce an attack or bites by a wide margin. Be a responsible owner and start working with your puppy or dog today.

Dog training, particularly for feisty dogs like Jack Russells, can be quite intimidating. Some owners, in fact, either give up or don’t bother in the first place.

Don’t let that happen to you. Especially when there’s a solution that will cost you less than a week’s worth of dog food!

SitStayFetch is that solution. With a wide variety of real dog training experts and veterinarians behind it, this course is the real deal. You get everything from house-training information that works, to proper corrective and obedience training info.

Even better, the course doesn’t teach you rules that only apply to one kind of dog; in fact, they cover specific techniques for handling all kinds of breeds and specific dogs. Which is great for me, because information about dachshunds isn’t going to necessarily help me with my German Shepherd.

The book and course recognize the fact that it may be easy to correct, say, a Labrador Retriver. A stubborn Border Collie, on the other hand, is a completely different story!

Included in the course is the comprehensive SitStayFetch Training book; an interactive audio version of the course; great bonus books, particularly “Secrets to Becoming the Alpha Dog”; and something no other dog training course offers: a personalized e-mail consultation (more on this below).

Surprisingly, it doesn’t cost much at all for this: just $37!. On top of that, there’s a two-month money-back-guarantee, and I know there are no questions asked, so you won’t have a problem (but hopefully you don’t need to resort to this measure!).

The service, as well, is top-notch. For no extra cost, we were able to e-mail not one but two long, detailed question about our dog problem. You’re only entitled to one question, but the staff were so friendly that they voluntarily sent me extra information and answered my other question–completely non-related!

On top of that, within a day of each, we got a fantastic, thorough reply that answered specific questions about our German Shepherd, Rory.

The service, as well, is top-notch. For no extra cost, we were able to e-mail not one but two long, detailed question about our dog problem. Within a day of each, we got an EXCELLENT reply, with thorough information that was actually specific to our Spaniel. The Support Team seemed genuinely sympathetic, and gave great informaton that solved our dog’s problem pretty quickly.

For that reason alone, we highly recommend Kingdom of Pets Dog Obedience Training. Your dog–and your family–will thank you.

FINAL RATING? Strong Buy It recommendation. Fun, interesting information, particularly about alpha dog training–a whole bonus section.

And at $37, incredibly affordable.

Of all the things going on in my world of self defense and home security products-burglary, rape, assault, self defense, home security, et.al. I get more calls and more inquiries on this topic than any other. To me it is amazing. Yet there it is! IT BLOWS ME AWAY!! HOW TO PROTECT AGAINST DOG ATTACKS AND DOG BITES.

More than women’s self defense, more than self defense, more than home security, more than any other single topic-this is, as they say, the pick of the litter.

Anecdotally the other day I got a phone all from a frantic lady whose daughter and her pit bull puppy were attacked when they went to a doggie park. She was scared to death and her daughters’ dog almost got killed.

I am not going to get preachy here but c’mon. Dogs are animals. Animals have instincts. One of those instincts is to fight and in some instances kill. It makes no difference if your dog is trained or not. When those instincts kick in, dogs will do what dogs do. Best you or your kids not be in the way.

The very first article I wrote about this nearly 18 months ago I recommended a dog pepper spray and a dog repeller that sends out an ultrasonic noise only dogs can hear. That was then.

Now I recommend a full strength Mace Pepper Gel and an 800,000 volt stun baton. The reasons for the change are simple. Dogs that run loose in my humble opinion do not deserve any consideration nor do their owners. Far too many people get hurt or traumatized by charging dogs not on leashes.

Some breeds do not respond well or at all to traditional fixes.

There is no certain way to prevent a dog from charging you and your best friend.

You have every right to do what you need to do to protect yourself and your dog!

“WHEN YOU CARE ENOUGH TO STUN and SPRAY THE VERY WORST”
